PC or Mac?

Mon Sep 7, 2009, 1:25 PM
I'm not exactly sure which one i should get, a mac or a pc. This will be for college (as i'm already in college) where i'll do the majority of my work and such.

There are so many pros and cons about each computer i'm pretty much stuck in the middle choosing between the two. I like that with the macs, its much more difficult to get a virus as opposed to a PC, and that you can also get the windows versions of microsoft word, powerpoint ect...

i'm just not sure, i really like both brands, just can't seem to pick on a certain one.

another thing that brings me to a PC is they are much cheaper than a mac laptop.

So what are your opinions? which one do you have? Likes? Dislikes?

I would get a Mac, especially for college. Sometimes they have specials, where students get a free printer and iTouch when they buy a Macbook. That's what I did. (:

My school uses PCs and I have Macs, and we've never had problems with transferring files between the two. They may be more expensive, but Macs are definitely worth the price.

But I've been a Mac person my whole life, so I'm biased (=

that offer ended today. bleh. they should extend it! lol. but i still think they have the discount for college students though, just doesn't include the iTouch.

but really? transferring things is a sinch? i would suspect the opposite.

though i've also heard that alot of professors use PC's and certain downloads and such won't work with a mac.

Ohh that sucks!

Well I wouldn't know about college, but everything transfers with Macs usually. All the microsoft stuff is compatible, so is photoshop, itunes, etc. It shouldn't be a problem.

If you want to do anything art related on your new computer, a Mac is a better investment, hands-down.

see thats what i have heard about macs too! i still really enjoy photography alot, plus i'm going to be doing something on youtube as well that would require something like iMovie
:iconcatch-some-air:
iMovie is kinda like the Windows Movie Maker of PC's though, so I wouldn't get too excited over that. It's slightly better than WMM, but not by much.

But all the programs you can get for that sort of thing on Macs are much better than PC programs.

Most people have PCs so if you were to send files in between students or student to teacher PC would be your best bet. Try to get a PC with Windows XP. Vista sucks. Macs are way more expensive, which is why most people have PCs.

I've had a PC all my life so I just stick to it. Macs look cool and all but I don't think they'd be worth the extra money and the extra stress for buying software.

very true. i think i'm leaning more towards a pc now after talking with a friend of mine who is very knowledgable with computers.

what kind of pc do you currently have at the moment? i've been looking at dell computers and have seen some unpleasant reviews =/

My mom's boyfriend is a computer technician... He built ours from a bunch of different parts. The tower says Star Light, though I'm not sure if the parts in it are from the same brand as the covering.

I've found that Dells suck in my experience. I have a dell laptop and it tends to not like sitting around. It will run really slow if I don't use it for a month. My desktop will run the same whether you use it consistently or not. Dells are cheap though, so I guess it is what your willing to pay for.
